‘Top 50 Albums Of 2013’ Countdown – #8: Cauldron – Tomorrow’s Lost

By Andrew Bansal

Canadian old-school heavy metal warriors Cauldron released their third full-length album ‘Tomorrow’s Lost’ via Century Media/Earache Records in North America earlier this year. A huge leap forward from their previous efforts, this 39-minute set of tunes is fast, relentless, to-the-point and in-your-face. Starting with the opening track ‘End Of Time’ all the way through to the title track which ends it, ‘Tomorrow’s Lost’ encapsulates all the enjoyable aspects of classic heavy metal, and presents nine extremely catchy and enjoyable tunes that fill true metal hearts with nothing but pure joy. This delicious heavy metal meal is best served all at once, because as soon as the ‘Play’ button is hit on track 1, the rest of the album breezes past before the listener even realizes it. Decidedly more focussed and guitar-oriented than their relatively more stripped-down past work, this album brings forth the songwriting prowess of bassist/vocalist Jason Decay and guitarist Ian Chains, with drummer Myles Deck making an impressive debut as well. Along with the music itself, the production style is also appropriately old-school, as none of the tunes lose their cohesiveness even at the highest volume. The lyrical themes are unapologetically cheesy, but that comes with the territory, and this style of metal needs bands that keep the fun element intact. For lovers of classic metal seeking something to satiate their appetites, Cauldron’s newest album is as good an answer as any.
