Latimer House – All The Rage

By Andrew Bansal

Prague-based guitar-driven pop/rock quartet Latimer House released their debut full-length album ‘All The Rage’ in February via Honk Records. The band started out in 2010 and this debut effort is a representation of their endeavor to blend various musical styles including 60s and 70s rock, pop, indie, folk, new wave and a few others. But the heart and core of their sound lies in the six-string instrument played by frontman Joe Cook, and for fans of clean electric and acoustic guitar sounds, Latimer House’s ‘All The Rage’ turns out to be quite a worthwhile offering.

Even fans of heavier variants of rock music can appreciate the simplicity and pristine nature of Latimer House’s tunes. They certainly have a British feel to their sound, specially in the vocals which are very much reminiscent of artists like Pink Floyd and Beatles. So, despite the fact that Latimer House is very far from being strictly categorized as ‘metal’ or ‘hard rock’, their music showcases the very sounds wherein lay the roots of what metal started from in the 60s and 70s. The song ‘Eye Can See’ is a great example of this, and for that reason it’s perhaps the best track on this album.

Overall, Latimer House’s ‘All The Rage’ is a delightful composition for fans of old-school electric and acoustic guitar-oriented pop rock music, and definitely serves as a great soundtrack for a laid-back evening at home or a relaxed cruise down the highway.
