Sydney, Australia-based young hard rock quartet The Lockhearts formed in 2012 and amidst playing residency shows at the Ziggy Pop Spectrum in their hometown, they’ve been working on new material which they will be releasing in small doses every few months. Their single ‘Freakshow’ came out recently and gives a taste of what this band is all about.
Catchy riffs and choruses dominate this melody-driven but undeniably heavy track, bringing forth a simple, fun-filled approach to hard rock which isn’t quite so apparent in the music world today. The quartet combines together and expresses themselves fully on this track, all within 4 minutes, with the right balance between the verse, chorus and solo sections. The song is produced appropriately to bring out the rawness and exuberance of the band but at the same time present it in a listenable form. Fans of old-school classic hard rock and 80s glam metal would find instantly find this to be an enjoyable track on the first listen itself, and listeners outside of Sydney can only imagine what the song would sound like in the live setting wherein the band would undoubtedly take it to a whole another level.
‘Freakshow’ is worthy enough to put The Lockhearts firmly on the radar of those who seek new rock music played by young bands, and there is much to look forward to from The Lockhearts in the near and distant future.
