Album Review: Municipal Waste – Slime and Punishment

By Ryan Falla

Revered punk/thrash act Municipal Waste finally graces us with the follow-up to 2012’s ‘The Fatal Feast’, the new album ‘Slime and Punishment’. Municipal Waste is a widely renowned act that melds punk and thrash in a way that evokes strong memories of Suicidal Tendencies. Saying ‘Slime and Punishment’ goes back to the roots of thrash/punk would be a disservice; Municipal Waste is the root of a new generation of punk. Their music is clean and riff heavy in line with thrash, yet they play with a grimy aggression of ’80s punk. Continue reading “Album Review: Municipal Waste – Slime and Punishment”

Album Review: Broken Hope – Mutilated and Assimilated

By Francisco Zamudio

Since their return from hiatus in 2012, Broken Hope has quickly gotten back into the game. Following up on the 2013 comeback album ‘Omen of Disease’, this year they bring their seventh album ‘Mutilated and Assimilated’, through Century Media. It’s death metal at its purest, filled with guttural vocals, crushing riffs and blasting beats. Probably their best material to date, ‘Mutilated and Assimilated’ is a relentless onslaught. Album Review: Nickelback – Feed the Machine

By Doug Walker

This is Nickelback. If you’ve turned the radio onto a contemporary rock station in the past 15 years you’ve heard them. You probably don’t realize it, and if someone held a gun to your head and asked you to hum Nickelback you’d probably die shortly thereafter taking a guess at any of the forgettable radio rock that they sound exactly like. “But they write/wrote hit songs.” So does Justin Bieber. And the White fucking Stripes. One time I was throwing a beach ball with some friends and a Nickelback concert broke out. Continue reading “Album Review: Nickelback – Feed the Machine”

Album Review: Goatwhore – Vengeful Ascension

By Rosie Walker

Goatwhore, an American extreme metal act, is well known for being one of the hardest working bands in the scene. Led by former Acid Bath member, Sammy Duet, this group of guys charged out of the gates in 1997 and haven’t slowed down since. Their first full-length album, ‘The Eclipse of Ages into Black,’ came out in 2000 and probed the curiosity of metalheads everywhere. The band’s deliberate severity of sound and skilled musicianship immediately set them apart from others out there who are trying to ‘make it.’ Now releasing their seventh album ‘Vengeful Ascension’ on June 23rd through Metal Blade Records, Goatwhore is still surprising listeners by their versatile, heavy sound. Album Review: Iced Earth – Incorruptible

By Andrew Bansal

Tampa, Florida group Iced Earth has waved the flag of true American old-school heavy metal all over the world for nearly 30 years, but certainly isn’t a band to ever look back, rest on their laurels or capitalize on their legacy in a way nostalgia acts do. Instead, they still have the motivation and creativity to write new music, and the fire is still burning as bright as ever, major lineup changes and serious physical ailments not withstanding. Iced Earth is now ready to release their 12th full-length studio album ‘Incorruptible’, an effort that reaffirms their relevance as a heavy metal band in 2017, and presents musical elements that are familiar to their fans but does so with such freshness, power and grace that it is poised to capture the attention and imagination of one and all.
