Lafayette, Louisiana based six-piece Secondborn are ready to announce their arrival with the imminent release of their 6-song EP ‘Symbols’. The upbeat, melody-driven, progressive set of tunes presents the band in a largely positive light and seems poised to create a solid first impression.

The EP emanates a Periphery vibe straightaway with the opening track ‘Say Love’ and it is carried for the most part throughout the six tracks. With their six-piece setup, clean vocals and three guitarists, Secondborn follow closely in Periphery’s footsteps but also succeed in standing out for their own unique elements through the use of the synth layer. The auto-tune and pitch correction constantly applied to the vocals might be a turnoff for a few listeners and the band could have perhaps refrained from it at least to some extent. But the guitar play and the rhythm section is undoubtedly respectable, and in all honesty it would be an insult to call this ‘alt rock’ (as it is called by some) because sonically it covers much more ground than the definition of that term.

For fans of melodic prog, Secondborn is a band most definitely worth a listen.
