Carrera – Love At First Lick EP

Carrera is a sleazy glam rock band from Los Angeles, CA featuring Ruby Carrera on guitar and Wendy Groovella on vocals. Ruby Carrera has been a fixture on the Sunset Strip since the ’80s with his various projects. They have a 4-track EP titled ‘Love At First Lick’ out on FnA records which is available wherever digital music is sold and also on Internet radio. The EP features the former singer of the band Josi Kat on vocals, and her powerful voice contains the perfect amount of sleaze and can be comparable to that of Joan Jett among others in this vain. Mix that with the sleazy rockin’ Ritchie Blackmore-inspired jamming on guitar with some solid track mastering skills and you walk out of the room with complete satisfaction.

Of the four tracks, ‘Give In To Me’ is the most well-rounded, comprising all the best elements in this type of music, from the well-defined guitar to the added sex appeal of the vocals. The track ‘When I Die’ seems like a homage to some of the trashiest and greatest icons out there, and rebels to the core despite their sweet facade. This one also strikes a Babes In Toyland chord for me with its vocal range and style. ‘He Said She Said’ is in my opinion the catchiest and most marketable of the lot with its ’70s biker-esque vibe. Maybe there’s a Judas Priest influence here, and if not, there should be. Lastly, and my favorite, is the song ‘Living Young’ for its catchy guitar riffage, creative drumming, and strong vocals with clear direction. If sitting down to a nice dinner with your grandmother is your favorite pastime you probably don’t need this EP in your life, however if you live the Hollywood life and sleaze, leather, pleather, latex, whips, studs, and chains are all included in your wardrobe then I highly recommend ‘Love At First Lick’.

Listen to the EP on Spotify.
