Vile Display Of Humanity – Self-Titled

Originated in Chicago, Illinois in 2007 but now based out of Seattle, Washington, thrash/hardcore punk group Vile Display Of Humanity independently released their fourth full-length album, a 20-track self-titled offering. Taking inspiration from the likes of Toxic Holocaust, Rancid and Lefover Crack, Vile Display Of Humanity have toiled hard first in the US Mid-West and then on the West Coast, spreading their own interpretation of the type of music they love listening to. Their newest release comes as appropriately self-titled because it is by far the most precise and accurate representation of the band.

Playing through a five-piece setup with two guitarists, Vile Display Of Humanity have come forth with a solid mix of melodic and aggressive elements in their style of punk-infused thrash, as is evident straightaway from the opening track ‘Minimum Wage’ and on tunes like ‘Time To Die’ and ‘Never Forget’, and this quality is a constant feature of the album as a whole. To complement the guitar melodies, the vocal delivery is very raw and the rhythm section sounds primitive, altogether making the album an ideal dosage for fans of the genre in the underground. The band exhibits hardcore as well as poppy tendencies, perhaps in a more balanced manner in comparison to their previous releases, and this album has brought them to a point from where they can take themselves in either direction in future endeavors.

One gets the feeling that their energy and intensity as a live band would be greater than that on this album, but Vile Display Of Humanity’s self-titled effort serves as a punishing sonic onslaught and a simple but worthy soundtrack for punk parties in basements and clubs everywhere.
