Dying Fetus Drummer Talks Touring, Politics & More

Interview by Jason Williams

Maryland death metal mainstays Dying Fetus have been slaying masses across North America for the past four weeks and are now nearing the last rites of this headline tour of theirs, with support from Exhumed, Abiotic and Rivers Of Nihil. This is still a continuation of the touring cycle to promote their latest album ‘Reign Supreme’ which came out via Relapse Records in mid-2012. Dying Fetus played a crushing show at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana on October 15, and our writer Jason Williams not only attended and reviewed the show but also caught up with drummer Trey Williams at the start of the evening. Read the conversation below along with a taste of some latest Dying Fetus music, and use the links at the bottom to check out Dying Fetus on the web or to read a review of the Santa Ana show. In Conversation With Bangladeshi Death Metal Band Warhound

By Andrew Bansal

Warhound is a death metal quartet based out of Dhaka, Bangladesh which started out in 2012. Members of this band originally started out under the name Carnage in 2005 but that band split up in 2008, and Warhound was born from its ashes four years later. This is a very young entity as of now, with only an EP called ‘Ominous Death Carnage’ under their belts, but it’s a set of tunes that truly justify and represent the title of the EP, and through the seven songs on this 25-minute EP, the band shows plenty of menace and promise for the years to come. But as of now, they are preparing to play the upcoming ‘Banish The Posers’ Fest in their hometown on November 16th. A gig put together by local promoters Primitive Invocation, this gig is all set to bring together the best of Bangladeshi underground extreme metal with bands from Malaysia, Thailand and India. A few days ago, I caught up with the band to discuss their participation in this fest, their history and lots more. Read the conversation below, along with a taste of their music. If you’re in Dhaka, make sure you catch Warhound at the gig later this month. And for extreme metal fans elsewhere, treat this as an introduction to a band that you might enjoy checking out. Continue reading “In Conversation With Bangladeshi Death Metal Band Warhound”

Eyehategod Vocalist Mike IX Williams Talks About New Band Corrections House (Audio)

By Andrew Bansal

Corrections House is a new band that combines the musical talents of Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Sanford Parker (Minsk, Nachtmystium) and Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod). The mere thought of a collaboration between these gentlemen is daunting in itself, and in my opinion the music on their debut album ‘Last City Zero’ which came out via Neurot Recordings on October 29, lives up to the hype I had built up in my head. It’s a little hard to describe, but I would attempt at classifying the music as old-school industrial with a strong ‘experimental’ vibe to it. Recently, I spoke to Mike IX Williams about the origins, working process and future of this band, and the latest episode of the Metal Assault Podcast includes this interview. Listen to it below. The Corrections House segment begins at around the 41-minute mark, and the full playlist can be viewed here. Audio Interview With Gojira Frontman Joe Duplantier

By Andrew Bansal

French extreme metal band Gojira has been in existence since 1996 but of late they’ve risen to global success, as a result to some important tours and a stellar new album called L’Enfant Sauvage which came out last year. Currently, they are on a North American tour as main support to the mighty Slayer, and played the Hollywood Palladium on Monday October 28 in the early phase of this tour. Having not seen the band for more than four years and based on their recent success, I had very high expectations from them and they certainly delivered. After the show, I had a chance to do an in-person interview with guitarist/vocalist Joe Duplantier. The latest episode of the Metal Assault Podcast includes this interview. Listen to it below. The Gojira segment begins at around the 1:11:00 mark, and the full playlist can be viewed here. Continue reading “Audio Interview With Gojira Frontman Joe Duplantier”

Periphery Bassist Talks Touring, Next Album, Stage Setup & More (Audio)

By Andrew Bansal

Modern progressive metal band Periphery are currently on the ‘This Tour Is Personal’ North American headline tour, with support acts Born Of Osiris, Dead Letter Circus and Twelve Foot Ninja. A highly active touring outfit, they were on the Summer Slaughter trek this year as well, and prior to that they toured with Deftones. Approaching the end of the cycle for their sophomore album, they are now getting ready to start work on the next album.  They brought their ‘personal’ tour to the Roxy in West Hollywood last night, and before the show I caught up with bassist Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood for a chat about touring, the next album, the band’s stage setup, the recent India show, and more. Listen to the 11-minute conversation here and use the links below the YouTube player to read a review of the Roxy show and visit Periphery on the web. Lita Ford Discusses New Live Album & More (Audio)

By Andrew Bansal

Lita Ford is no stranger to rock, having started out her early years in the all-female rock outfit The Runaways and after the disintegration of that band, she moved on to establish a successful solo career for herself. The latest studio offering by her, ‘Living Like A Runaway’ came out earlier this year and treated fans with the classic Lita Ford sound. Now, she’s ready to release a live album called ‘The Bitch Is Back Live’ on November 5th via Steamhammer/SPV Records, consisting of a live recording of the show her band played at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills last year. Around three weeks ago, I had the pleasure of talking to Lita about this live album and lots of other things. Listen to the 15-minute chat below.
