Origin/Gorguts Drummer John Longstreth Discusses Instructional DVD, Influences & More

In modern extreme metal circles, John Longstreth is one of the better known drummers, through his involvement in various well-renowned bands like Origin, Gorguts, Dying Fetus, The Red Chord, Exhumed and others. Currently he plays in both Origin and Gorguts, and is also pursuing a side-project called Crator. Aside from these bands and projects, he is also looking to put out his first instructional DVD via Reversed Records, for which he is running an IndieGoGo campaign, which has less than a month left till its deadline. Rex Brown Talks New Kill Devil Hill Album + More

Kill Devil Hill is a heavy metal band that began in 2011 and features in its ranks Rex Brown on bass, Vinny Appice on drums, Mark Zavon on guitars and Dewey Bragg on vocals. They put out their self-titled debut album last year and did sporadic touring, but the year of 2013 has seen them rise to greater heights, with the signing to Century Media Records and the release of an aptly titled second studio album ‘Revolution Rise’. Before they embarked on their ongoing US headline run, I had a chance to speak to Rex Brown about this new album, the development of the band over the past two years, his bass sound, bass playing approach, cover tunes, his KISS tribute gig, and more. In-depth Interview With Exodus/Generation Kill Vocalist Rob Dukes

Formed by Exodus vocalist Rob Dukes along with Ex-Pro Pain guitarist Rob Moschetti, Generation Kill has been in existence since 2008, releasing their debut album ‘Red, White And Blood’ via Season Of Mist in 2011 and now getting ready to put out their sophomore effort ‘We’re All Gonna Die’ via Nuclear Blast Records on November 26th. In comparison to the debut, the band has expanded a great deal on their music this time, and for Exodus fans who know Rob Dukes solely for his contributions to that band, Generation Kill might come across as a pleasant surprise that offers something different and more diverse. A couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to talk to Rob about this new album amongst several other things, and it turned more into a conversation rather than a straight Q&A. Malaysian Speed Metal Band Lobotomy Talks ‘Banish The Posers’ Fest & More

Hailing from the Malaysian city of Kajang, speed/thrash metal trio Lobotomy began in 2010 and so far they’ve released a demo and a full-length album, appropriately titled ‘Speed Metal Warfare’ and ‘Satanic Speed Metal Ritual’ respectively. This year they put out a split DVD with Surrender Of Divinity. Signed to German label Heavy Forces Records, they continue to work on new music but as of now, they are gearing up for the ‘Banish The Posers’ Fest in Dhaka, Bangladesh on November 16th. A gig put together by Bangladeshi promoters Primitive Invocation, this gig will bring Lobotomy together with the best of Bangladeshi underground extreme metal along with fellow Malaysians in Kathgor, and bands from Thailand and India as well. In-depth Interview With Scale The Summit Guitarist Chris Letchford

Houston TX-based instrumental progressive group Scale The Summit released a stellar new album called ‘The Migration’ earlier this year, and are now on a headline run to promote of the album, following support tours with the likes of Tesseract and Intronaut. They played at the Whisky-A-Go-Go in West Hollywood last Wednesday November 6th and put on an incredible show. A few hours before their set, I sat down with guitarist/principal songwriter Chris Letchford in the band’s sprinter van, to talk about Scale The Summit’s recent travels, future plans, the new album, songwriting, touring vehicles, and lots more. Purgation Vocalist Discusses ‘Banish The Posers’ Fest + More

Based out of Kolkata, India, Purgation is a death metal quintet which formed in 2010. They have been steadily building themselves up through local underground gigs in Kolkata and occasional out-of-town appearances. They are signed to US-based label Slaughterhouse Records and will soon be releasing their ‘Exterminated Maleasance’ EP. Currently, they are gearing up to play the upcoming ‘Banish The Posers’ Fest in Dhaka, Bangladesh on November 16th. A gig put together by Bangladeshi promoters Primitive Invocation, this gig will present Purgation with the best of Bangladeshi underground extreme metal along with bands from Malaysia and Thailand.
