Periphery, flag-bearers of the progressive djent sound, released their hugely impressive self-titled debut album in early 2010 and have rapidly risen and gained popularity in the metal world. In fact, their music translates so well that it’s appreciated not only by metal fans but also by music nerds in general. It came as no surprise that Periphery quickly got themselves on tour with bands like Fear Factory, Between The Buried And Me and many others, gaining admiration from peers and critics in the process.
Recently, the band did their first ever US headline tour, called the “Frak The Gods” tour, and when this tour came to the Key Club in Hollywood, I had the pleasure of catching up with guitarist and principal songwriter Misha Mansoor. We talked in detail about the next Periphery album, his on-stage setup, the upcoming European tour with Dream Theater, John Petrucci’s impact on his musical career, and lots more. Listen to this 20-minute conversation, and check out the band’s official facebook for more.
