Known for his work in progressive rock band King’s X, solo albums as well as guest appearances with a multitude of other artists and bands over the past two decades, legendary bassist/vocalist Dug Pinnick of King’s X has now started a new project with blues rock solo artist Eric Gales on guitar and Thomas Pridgen of The Mars Volta fame on the drums. Their self-titled debut album is set to release on February 12th via Magna Carta Records. A couple of days ago, I had the absolute pleasure of talking to Dug about this album, his solo material, gear and other things. Based out of New Haven, Connecticut, Hatebreed have been known for their hardcore punk-influenced heavy metal, being one of the very first bands to introduce this style to American audiences, and have translated their songs excellently on stage over their nearly 20-year career with some high-octane live performances around the world. Now, they are ready to release their sixth studio album ‘The Divinity Of Purpose’, on January 25th 2013 in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records and on January 29th 2013 in North America via Razor & Tie. After hearing the entire album a few times, I can say with certainty that fans won’t be disappointed with this one. Thrash metal giants Testament released their new album ‘Dark Roots Of Earth’ last July, an album that lived up to all expectations and garnered a positive response from fans and critics worldwide. They followed that up with the final leg of their North American co-headline tour with Anthrax, along with fellow San Francisco Bay Area thrashers Death Angel as support. The band wrapped up 2012, yet another busy and eventful year in their long career, with a special one-off gig in Bangalore, India on December 15th. Now, they’re gearing up for a US headline tour with Overkill, Flotsam & Jetsam and 4Arm as the support acts. Yesterday, on Thursday January 10th 2013, I had a pleasant chat with vocalist Chuck Billy to discuss this tour, and the India experience. Corrosion Of Conformity have had a busy year, to say the least, with three new releases and a multitude of live shows. Currently, they are on a US tour with High On Fire, Goatwhore and Lo-Pan, and they performed at the Atrium in Santa Cruz last Tuesday December 18th. Widely known for his celebrated career spanning over four decades and comprising of the early Scorpions era, followed by Electric Sun and a successful solo stint, legendary guitar icon Uli Jon Roth has just announced a North American tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his joining the Scorpions in 1973. The tour begins on January 25th in LA, and besides the Scorpions songs, he’ll be presenting various other things including his solo material.
