3 Inches Of Blood Singer Cam Pipes Talks Sports & Metal

By Andrew Bansal

Vancouver, Canada-based heavy metal band 3 Inches Of Blood have been toiling away for the past nearly 14 years, going through a couple of changes in personnel and musical style during the process. But it’s perhaps fair to say that with the release of their fifth studio album ‘Long Live Heavy Metal’ via Century Media Records early last year they’ve redefined themselves as a group of musicians. Filled to the brim with Grade-A heavy metal goodness, this album certainly appeases or should appease every fan of the genre. After the release the band has done a few tours to promote it, and most recently they completed a North American tour where they were main support to Death Angel. The last show of this tour was at the Constellation Room (inside the Observatory) in Santa Ana, and shortly before the band hit the stage, I spoke to singer Cam Pipes about the hockey game he was at earlier that evening, the tour, latest album, and lots more. Enjoy the conversation below. Continue reading “3 Inches Of Blood Singer Cam Pipes Talks Sports & Metal”

Battlecross Guitarist Talks Touring, Favorite Metallica Album & More

By Andrew Bansal

Based out of Detroit, Michigan, Battlecross is quintessential American heavy metal. They self-released their debut album ‘Push Pull Destroy’ in 2010, and after signing to Metal Blade Records, they put out two impressive albums ‘Pursuit Of Honor’ in 2011 and ‘War Of Will’ earlier this year. But more than anything, they’ve made a name for themselves as a killer live band and for that reason they continue to get on high-profile tours in North America and elsewhere. Following their Mayhem Fest run this summer, they just completed a tour with Death Angel, 3 Inches Of Blood, Revocation and Diamond Plate, and played the last show of the tour at the Constellation Room (inside the Observatory) in Santa Ana. Before the start of the show, I caught up with guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala to talk about all things Battlecross. In Conversation With The Sword Guitarists JD Cronise & Kyle Shutt

By Andrew Bansal

Austin, Texas-based worshippers of the heavy riff The Sword have had a tremendously successful career so far and for a band of their stature they’ve already achieved a lot in their ten-year long career so far. They released their 4th studio album ‘Apocryphon’ late last year via Razor & Tie Records, an album that saw them return to the classic metal roots and come out with some truly old-school stoner tunes. Following that they’ve done a couple of tours, and currently they are on a North American tour as main support to the ever-amazing Clutch. This tour made a stop at the House Of Blues Sunset Strip on November 9th, and before the show I sat down with gutiarist/vocalist JD Cronise and lead guitarist Kyle Shutt to talk about the tour and many other things. By Andrew Bansal

Denver, Colorado thrashers Havok started out in 2004 but in the last few years they’ve been going at it full tilt with some solid full-length and EP releases, and great tours to support them. Their latest full-length offering ‘Unnatural Selection’ came out earlier this year via Candlelight Records and is an unrelenting, unabated salute to old-school thrash. Following the album’s release they did a North American headline tour of their own, and then jumped on a tour with Soulfly. They visited the Viper Room in Hollywood on the last night of this tour on November 7th, and before the show I caught up with guitarist/vocalist David Sanchez to talk about all things Havok. Anciients Guitarists Discuss Touring, ‘Heart Of Oak’ & Future Plans

By Andrew Bansal

Based out of Vancouver, Canada, progressive metal band Anciients put out their debut full-length album ‘Heart Of Oak’ earlier this year via Season Of Mist Records, an album that instantly captivates not only everyone that has a liking for this particular genre of music, but with its vastly diverse patterns, it’s a compelling listen for all fans of heavy music. Following the album’s release, the band has managed to get on some killer North American tours, starting with the Death To All run in the Spring, then the Lamb Of God/Decapitated tour and most recently with Scale The Summit and Tesseract. They were scheduled to be on Sepultura’s November tour of the same continent. but the cancellation of that tour left them in the cold with a slight lull in activity. A couple of weeks ago, I caught up with guitarists/vocalists Chris Dyck and Kenneth Cook to discuss this cancellation, past tours, Heart Of Oak and future plans. Read the conversation and check out some of their amazing music below.  Continue reading “Anciients Guitarists Discuss Touring, ‘Heart Of Oak’ & Future Plans”
