Norwegian black metal band Keep Of Kalessin defy the norms of the extreme metal scene their country is known for, and present something that compels first-time listeners into taking notice straightaway. They add a lot of elements to the conventional black metal sound, which results in music that’s heavy, epic, melodic and technically rich. They have released five full-length studio albums till date. The latest album “Reptilian” hit the US market in early 2010, an outstanding piece of music in every regard.
Since that release, the band has toured the United States with Nile and then with Sepultura, and now they are back on another US tour with Mayhem, most probably the last one in the Reptilian touring cycle. This tour came to the LA area on November 27th at the House of Blues in Hollywood, and before Keep Of Kalessin’s set, I caught up with guitarist and musical mastermind Obsidian C to talk about his blog, the band’s plans for next year, and his opinion on rock ‘n roll’s influence on black metal. Watch the 9-minute conversation below, and check out the band’s website for more.
