If you managed to keep in touch with metal tours this year, there is a good chance you’ve seen PowerGlove somewhere. The video game metal quartet from Boston, MA epitomize the touring life-style metal bands have to adapt in the current musical climate. Since their latest album “Saturday Morning Apocalypse” came out in 2010 on the E1 label, these guys have been on the road pretty much non-stop. This year they toured with Symphony X, then went on Summer Slaughter as the halftime act, and recently finished another North American tour, this time with Evergrey and Sabaton.
Despite having seen them numerous times in the past 2 years, this is one band I’ll never get tired of, because they bring with them something unique, and their shows are always characterized by fans having limitless amounts of fun. And contrary to what the so-called critics say, I don’t see their costumes as any kind of “gimmick”, because they do a great job when it comes to the actual music they compose, and whether you are a video game/cartoon nerd or not, you’ll find plenty of reason to enjoy PowerGlove.
On October 6th, during the most recent tour, they visited Hollywood’s Key Club and I had a chance to speak to bassist Nick Avila. It’s always fun to talk to these guys, and this time it was no different. Listen to the 12-minute chat as Nick talks in detail about their Summer Slaughter experience, including an amazing compliment from the unlikeliest of sources, and lots of other topics. Do check out the band’s facebook once you’re done listening.
