San Francisco-based Black Cobra are just a two-piece band, but through their four full-length studio releases and incredible live performances, they have proved to be a mighty force to reckon with. I would describe them as a sludge/doom metal band with hardcore elements, and even a bit of a progressive touch that makes it an intriguing blend and has given rise to a musical style not many other bands can successfully pull off.
Their latest album “Invernal” came out last October on Southern Lord Records. These set of killer tunes are the next step in the band’s musical journey and shows the rapid progress they’ve made as musicians since the 2009 release “Chronomega”. The band is currently on tour with Kyuss Lives and The Sword, and today on December 2nd 2011, just a few minutes ago, I got a chance to speak to drummer Rafael Martinez to talk about this tour and some of their festival appearances, as well as the writing process for Invernal. Listen to the 12-minute conversation below, and check out the band’s facebook page for tour dates and other info.
