February 20th 2016, The Glass House, Pomona CA: After attending metal, rock, and punk shows for well over twenty years you realize just how many bands there are out there and how while you may think you finally got a handle on it all, you figure out you still have much to learn about and at times discover from the ground up. On Saturday February 20, 2016 I ventured back to Pomona to the Glass House for At The Gates, Decapitated, The Haunted, and Harms Way. Continue reading “At The Gates Obliterate Pomona”

February 19th 2016, Complex, Glendale CA: If you’re in Glendale or anywhere in the Los Angeles area and you are in the market for a good live concert, you can usually count on Complex to provide such an experience for you, as they have a plethora of live shows with solid line ups on any given night. On Friday February 19th, 2016 I attended Complex to see headlining act Deth Crux playing the tape release show for their debut EP ‘Pears Of Anguish’, with support from MAask, Christ The Witch, and Costume. Ne Obliviscaris Conquer & Destroy Ventura

By Jason Williams

February 19th 2016, The Garage, Ventura CA: One of the most fascinating aspects of music for me, through all genres, and metal in this case especially, is that sometimes a person feels honored enough to hear a band in their early time period, because of where that band progresses in subsequent years. And not only that, but that particular band can also happen to be extremely special, and “positively different” than the others. I would personally cite bands like Deathspell Omega, Augury, Psycroptic, Gorguts, Spawn of Possession, Lykathea Aflame, Iniquity and Anata, as I was happily fortunate to hear them before the general metal public was able to, several years beforehand. With Ne Obliviscaris, the band would be in the same category, an incredibly talented and unique band, that I felt the world isn’t quite fully ready for. Enchanting violin work, supreme guitar musicianship, a sensational dual vocal attack, elegant melodies combined with a superior sense of classical music, Ne Obliviscaris presents a delicate and extreme pallet of eceletic metal. Fresh off of their incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign, and on their first North American tour opening for Cradle of Filth, Ne Obliviscaris played one of their headline off day shows at The Garage in Ventura, CA, and after all these years I was finally able to witness their live performance. Cradle Of Filth, Butcher Babies & Ne Obliviscaris Perform At The Mayan

February 17th 2016, The Mayan, Los Angeles CA: It’s been a pretty full month of great shows and after Black Sabbath I wasn’t sure anything could come close to topping that excitement, but then I discovered I was wrong. Wednesday February 17th, 2016 at the Mayan Theater downtown I saw my first Cradle Of Filth show. They don’t play in Los Angeles very often and when they did I clearly missed them, but I’m glad I finally got the experience because it absolutely blew me away. I mean, extreme metal which is black metal, melodic death metal, and symphonic goth metal mixed beautifully together is of my favorite metal genre to begin with, but the enhancement of the amazing vocals and range with seriously talented musicians blew my mind completely. Opening acts for this show were Australian progressive death metal band Ne Obliviscaris, and the Butcher Babies. February 12th 2016, The Palladium, Hollywood CA: It was the last show of the North American tour featuring metal heavyweights Lamb Of God and Anthrax along with opening acts Deafheaven and Power Trip, and the Hollywood Palladium was completely sold out. Fans began arriving at the venue around noon to have the honor of being front row center, with the added benefit of being crushed for 5 hours straight with no possibility of being able to leave and return. February 12th 2016, The Whisky-A-Go-Go, West Hollywood CA: On Friday February 12th, 2016 I made my return to the Whisky A Go Go where I believe I have spent most of this month, since they have a variety of great shows still to come. On this night it was the second night of the co-headlining tour of Michael Monroe and Hardcore Superstar with opening acts Se7en Reasons Why and Kings Of Jade. On the previous night I believe Michael Monroe was the headliner but on this night it was Hardcore Superstar. Interestingly it seemed the majority of attendees were only interested in Michael Monroe as the crowd thinned for Hardcore Superstar, yet it was still a full room.
