February 27th 2016, Loaded Rock Bar, Hollywood CA: After getting all riled up in punk rock mode from my earlier attendance at the Anti-Flag show which was pretty exciting and a not-so-typical way to spend my Saturday night, I decided to run off to another great show once that ended around 11:30, which happened to be one of the last shows at Loaded and I caught the last band in its entirety, which was Yeghikian. This band was started by the singer and guitar player Alexy Yeghikian, and all instruments were played and recorded by him until he brought in his bandmates for the live performances. It’s stoner doom metal genius at work and there is not a dull moment in any of it. The sound is great and the vocals are clean and happy with some somber moments, but what’s fun about it is it has a happy vibe to it that you don’t find in most bands of this nature. Clear influences seem to be Black Sabbath and Motörhead. One of the newer songs ‘Morning Star’ kicked major booty as did the ‘The Witch’, ‘Alone In A Cave’, and the surprise drum solo that I’ve never seen any band do at Loaded before ever, also gave numerous talented bands a run for their money. There were some mind-blowing creative guitar licks that harmonized well with the second guitar and bass, and when all is said and done I just want to hear the whole set all over again. With projects that start with one person on a solo mission, no matter what or who you bring into it, it still remains clear who created it because you can usually see the genius pouring out of their brain all over the stage as was the case here and also when I saw the band Furiosa.

I must say I was very happy to see Yeghikian headlining this show and I wouldn’t mind if they headline every show from here on out because they are truly worthy. It is very sad to lose another venue in Hollywood to the overpriced rent charges and fact that no one wants to spend a minuscule amount of money to see a rock ‘n roll/metal show these days the way they used to. I really hope someone creates a new night somewhere else in Hollywood and I know there are a few places around that would work, including the Dragonfly, although to be successful they would have to be done carefully and tactfully. Until then, let’s just enjoy what we have at the present moment and foresee the future in a positive way to alleviate further disappointment. When one door closes another one opens is an accurate and intelligent phrase that has always held true in my life so far. R.I.P. Loaded Live.

Counts Vapmp'd Iron Maiden's

February 27th 2016, Count’s Vamp’d, Las Vegas NV: It is not often that you get to pre-game for a big metal concert by enjoying a live set by the band’s best tribute band on the planet, but such was the case in Las Vegas this past weekend, as Iron Maiden fans got a chance to rock out with their favorite music performed live by Los Angeles-based all-female tribute act The Iron Maidens. The girls took the stage at Count’s Vamp’d Rock Bar & Grill on Saturday February 27th 2016, the night before Iron Maiden played a sold-out show at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, and gave fans a night to remember, with a performance that befitted the enormity of the occasion and a set filled to the brim with rarities and deep cuts that even the original band was unlikely to perform. February 26th 2016, Pearl Theater @ Palms, Las Vegas NV: On the strength of their highly praiseworthy new release ‘Dystopia’, metal giants Megadeth have seemingly put recent years of mediocrity and upheaval behind them and in the year 2016 have re-emerged with a new lineup and newfound vigor. A few weeks after the latest album hit stores worldwide, Megadeth, with Mustaine and Ellefson now joined by Lamb Of God’s Chris Adler on drums and former Angra axeman Kiko Loureiro on guitar, embarked on a North American headline tour in February 2016 with support acts Suicidal Tendencies (featuring Dave Lombardo on drums), Children Of Bodom and Havok to present material from ‘Dystopia’ along with their typical assortment from the back catalog. The Dystopia tour began in Dallas, Texas on February 20th and arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada six days later, to a packed Friday night gathering at the Pearl Theater inside the Palms Resort & Casino. Megadeth, by the honest admission of fans and critics alike, have been hit-and-miss in terms of live performances on the past few tours, but regardless, fans always buy tickets to their shows and hope for the best. On this occasion, Megadeth did not disappoint, and neither did the main support act. Continue reading “Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies Rock Capacity Crowd At The Pearl In Las Vegas”

February 22nd 2016, The Whisky-A-Go-Go, West Hollywood CA: Los Angeles does not ever fall short on entertainment no matter what day of the week it is, and despite tour packages that set up bands to roll through strange towns on all nights of the week making the turnout hit or miss, you can count on even a Monday night in the world of metal at the Whisky-A-Go-Go to sell out, especially for a Fleshgod Apocalypse show. This headlining tour for Fleshgod Apocalypse carried with them support acts Carach Angren and Abigail Williams, with local acts Miscreancy, Transcend The Realm, and Luna Occulta.
