August 8th 2015, T. Boyle’s Tavern, Pasadena CA: As an ideal preparation for their upcoming week-long run of US West Coast dates with fellow Los Angeles group Diamond Lane, hard rock quartet Delta Rose performed at T. Boyle’s Tavern in Pasadena last Saturday August 8 2015, and were allowed to play a rather unusually long set. “This ain’t a Hollywood show, and we’re playing longer than 20 minutes”, said vocalist/guitarist Spencer Krasch, and sure enough, it wasn’t, as Delta Rose brought forth a hefty dosage of wholehearted rock ‘n roll to this stage, much to the delight and satisfaction of all attendees that contributed to an excellent turnout for this free, all-ages event put together by the folks behind the ‘Humpcast‘ podcast.

Located in an obscure alley way in downtown Pasadena, T. Boyle’s Tavern was packed to near capacity on a perfectly beautiful Southern California Saturday evening. Following an introductory announcement from the organizers, Delta Rose, the sole focus of attention as there were no other bands sharing this evening with them, took the stage at 10:15 and for the next 80 minutes, entertained this audience with a comprehensive assortment of tunes old and new, along with commendable stand-up comedy between songs by the frontman. The set comprised hard-hitting fast rockers, slow bluesy numbers, and everything in between, including an undiniably impressive cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘Time’. Krasch put down the guitar and played keyboard for a song or two, adding yet another new dimension to Delta Rose’s musicianship. The band has been in existence for at least six years, but time is on their side as they are still very young, and with performances like this they are clearly showing their true potential as worthy flag bearers of Van Halen-flavored hard rock. The set also included the ever-spectacular ‘tower of shred’, with Krasch lifting lead guitarist Forrest Goss on his shoulders for an entire solo.

As alluded to earlier, this was a refreshing change from the run-of-the-mill Hollywood gig. Here was a band expressing itself to the fullest, and an audience that enjoyed it just the same, and just goes to show that bands that frequent the Hollywood clubs and consider themselves part of the so-called Hollywood ‘scene’ really need to break out and play other parts of town if they have any desire to spread their wings. Delta Rose are showing how it’s done, and it’s about time other bands followed suit. All in all, a fantastic evening in every aspect.
