Photo Gallery: Kill Devil Hill Play First LA Show With Johnny Kelly

Photos by Brad Worsham

April 5th 2014, The Viper Room, West Hollywood CA: Kill Devil Hill, the Rex Brown-led heavy metal outfit, went through a major change in personnel recently when co-founder Vinny Appice vacated the seat behind the drumkit, and former Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly was recruited to take his place. The band booked three West Coast shows for early April, and after Johnny Kelly’s debut gig with Kill Devil Hill at Count’s Vamp’d in Las Vegas last Friday, they drove down to the Viper Room in West Hollywood for Kelly’s first LA appearance for KDH.

Our photographer Brad Worsham was on-site to witness and capture the action. According to him, it’s hard to say and too soon to judge whether Johnny Kelly did a better job than Vinny Appice but Vinny’s absence certainly wasn’t felt. They played to a packed Viper Room that thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and besides their original tunes from the two studio albums they’ve released thus far, they ended with Pantera’s ‘Mouth For War’, and in Brad’s words, the place ‘went insane’. Kill Devil Hill never played any covers in their shows prior to this, and it was something new for them and their fans. With this new lineup, they look all set to resume activities full-on, so be on the lookout for more Kill Devil Hill shows in the near future.
