Wings Band Performs On AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands”

By Joe Dolan

March 10th 2014, The Whisky-A-Go-Go, West Hollywood CA: AXS TV has run their special series highlighting performances of the World’s Greatest Tribute Bands for well over a year and on March 10th, the hosted act at the Whisky-A-Go-Go was Wings Band, a tribute to the music of Paul McCartney and Wings.

The Wings Band features Andy Sarraf as Paul McCartney along with a host of talents that have held the public interest for years with their tribute to McCartney himself, and with members performing in the globally recognized group – “The Fab Four,” a tribute to the Beatles. Along with Andy, who self-trained to perform the music left-handed as McCartney does, fans will find singer/songwriter Christine Roseander performing as Linda McCartney with Rob McNeil, Michael Amador and Rolo Sandoval and a horn section that includes Wendell Kelly, an artist who has appeared with acts including The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie.

As with all performances on this AXS TV series, the doors were scheduled for a 7:00 PM opening, but the line at the Whisky grew halfway up the block just after the toll of 6 o’clock. Fans wore Beatles and Wings garb, and one couple brought their four-year-old son dressed in the fashion of McCartney himself and looking like a miniature twin to Sarraf who bore the same pink scarf and black shirt. There was a buzz about the show that brought people from locations as far as San Diego to see the night’s performance.

In-house and around the VIP balcony section, attendees including 95.5 KLOS radio show-host Chris Carter, the on-air personality that brings Southern California the weekly edition of “Breakfast with the Beatles,” comedian/actor David Spade, tribute legend and guitarist of Queen Nation Mike McManus and a host of others enjoyed mingling with the band and sharing personal stories of interactions with members of the Beatles over the years. Actor and musician Corey Feldman joined host Katie Daryl to announce the band’s performance and during the encore, joined the band onstage for a rendition of “Hi,Hi,Hi” and “Hey Jude,” proudly wearing a jacket that had been signed by three of the four members of the Beatles in 1993.

While Andy Sarraf and Christine Roseander did dress the part of the McCartneys to a “T” and from a distance did more than just resemble the duo, it was the peak quality of the music that took the audience back in time. With eyes closed and ears opened, the likeness of what the band played stayed so true to the original music, you could have sworn it was Wings performing in their prime. Without a doubt, there is a clear understanding of why fans travel to celebrate the music of McCartney and Wings with the Wings Band Tribute to the Music of Paul McCartney; and after last night’s television broadcast, everyone knows. Wings Band may as well be Wings, reincarnated.
