Monolith, Livin Alive & Tyranis Bring Metal To El Monte

By Andrew Bansal

imageJuly 17th 2015, Silver Dollar Saloon, El Monte CA: As part of their three-day Southern California heavy metal bender, San Diego-based Monolith and Los Angeles’ own Livin Alive presented a night of old-school metal at the Silver Dollar Saloon in El Monte last night, along with opening act Tyranis hailing from Orange County. Monolith caught my attention in early 2014 with a stellar performance at the Down’N Out in downtown LA, and have been on my radar ever since. They released their debut full-length album ‘Against The Wall Of Forever’ via Funeral Noise Records in February 2015 and with a revamped lineup, have been going all guns blazing as a live band. The combination of Monolith with Livin Alive, one of Los Angeles’ most exuberant young bands, promised to deliver an enjoyable Friday night for all in attendance. False, Pendulous & Godless Perform At Complex

By Andrew Bansal

imageJuly 16th 2015, Complex, Glendale CA: Los Angeles quartet Pendulous have come a long way in their short four-year existence as perpetrators of doom, death and despair, as proven by the sheer quality of musicianship on their 2015 debut full-length ‘A Palpable Sense Of Love & Loss’. Last Thursday July 16, they performed at Complex in Glendale, for a show headlined by touring black metal outfit False based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and supported by local black metal duo Godless. This was an event once again put together by the tireless and flawless underground music promotional organizations Church Of The 8th Day and The Elegy Ensemble. This is a stage Pendulous have made their own through previous appearances, and they did so to an even greater extent at this gig, leaving attendees satiated and devoid of any regret whatsoever. Warchief & Black Prism Rock Five Star Bar

By Andrew Bansal

imageJuly 15th 2015, Five Star Bar, Los Angeles CA: When it comes to live music entertainment, there is no such thing as a ‘dead night’ in Los Angeles. But some nights are more low-key than others, and that’s when the true underground talent really shines because there isn’t much else going on in town. Last Wednesday July 15 2015, the Five Star Bar hosted one such event featuring Los Angeles rock ‘n roll rising force Warchief, doom band Black Prism, and Psycho California alumni Lords Of Beacon House as the headliners. The Five Star Bar has treated LA rock/metal scene supporters to some excellent evenings for a number of years. With a a $5 price tag on this potentially enjoyable gig, there was no reason not to attend. Continue reading “Warchief & Black Prism Rock Five Star Bar”

Danzig Begins US Tour At Fox Theater In Pomona

By Lisa Burke

July 11th 2015, Fox Theater, Pomona CA: As on many nights in Los Angeles, I had a tough choice to make on what metal band to go see last Saturday July 11. I chose Danzig above the other contenders Holy Grail with Exmortus, or Van Halen. I will say that while the others would have also rocked my night, I do not regret the decision. Danzig played at Fox Theater in Pomona. If you’ve never been to Pomona, don’t worry, even Pomona has never been to Pomona. This show was the kick off to their tour with Cancer Bats and Pennywise backing them up. On this night however, the opener was Saviours instead of Pennywise who will jump on the tour with them starting with their next show.
