Metal In Bangladesh: ‘Banish The Posers’ Fest Set To Slay Dhaka On November 16

In recent years, heavy metal has spread its wings and found an audience in countries you would have never imagined even a few years ago as places with a potential metal scene. But nowadays, metal is truly a global phenomenon. One of the regions that has rapidly developed its scene in the past few years is South-East Asia, and one country in this part of the world that’s attempting to create its own scene is Bangladesh. Primitive Invocation, an underground extreme metal promotion company based in the city of Dhaka, have been working hard at putting together gigs and are also running a fanzine. They’ve successfully organized events in the recent past, and are now gearing up for their next event, the appropriately titled ‘Banish The Posers’ Fest which is set to take place at the Russian Cultural Centre in Dhaka on Saturday November 16.

The show will feature eight of the most crushing extreme metal bands from Bangladesh and beyond, with four local bands Orator, Nafarmaan, Warhound and Morbidity joined by Purgation from India, Savage Deity from Thailand, and Malaysian bands Kathgor and Lobotomy. For people in the area, this is a must-attend gig, priced at 299 BDT and starting at 3 PM local time. On the other hand, for me and for readers of this website based elsewhere around the world, it’s simply a chance to discover some great underground South-East Asian metal talent. Metal Assault is proud to announce a collaboration with Primitive Invocation in an effort to spread awareness about this event. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting interviews with all eight bands and with the organizing team. Stay tuned!
