November 2nd 2015, The Whisky-A-Go-Go, West Hollywood CA: Longstanding Swedish melodic death metal group Soilwork followed up their massive 2013 double LP ‘The Living Infinite’ with the release of their tenth studio album ‘The Ride Majestic’ via Nuclear Blast Records in August 2015, and after supporting Soulfly on a North American tour, they ended with a run of headline dates of their own, with support acts Shattered Sun and Earthside. For the last show of this run, Soilwork arrived at the Whisky-A-Go-Go in West Hollywood last Monday November 2nd, and fans that either missed their show with Soulfly at the Fonda a mere 31 days prior, or were disappointed by the short set Soilwork played at that gig, turned up here at the Whisky to be treated to a full 16-song set. November 2nd 2015, The Viper Room, West Hollywood CA: Los Angeles-based rock/metal quintet Stitched Up Heart signed a worldwide deal with Another Century for a new album slated for release in Spring 2016, and are about to embark on an extensive US tour in support of label mates Like A Storm. Stitched Up Heart have been around for at least five years, and worked hard on a D.I.Y. level to get to where they are today. Before hitting the road for this tour, they played a free showcase event at the Viper Room last Monday November 2nd. The last time I saw them was at the Key Club in 2011, and not only did this Viper Room gig left me pleasantly surprised, but in no doubt that the band has come a long way since then, in every sense of the term. October 31st 2015, Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles CA: Glenn Danzig’s ‘Blackest Of The Black’ package tour was resurrected in 2015 for the first time in five years, and traveled through North America for four weeks before landing in downtown Los Angeles for its final gig, on Halloween night at the Microsoft Theater (formerly Nokia Theater) in the L.A. Live court. Headlined by Danzig, of course, the diverse lineup featured the comeback of Superjoint, along with Veil Of Maya, Prong and Witch Mountain. Many of the attendees were in costumes, and they trickled into the venue in the early evening with expectations of an entertaining Halloween celebration, but ended up witnessing what could lightly be described as one of the most bizarre shows ever.
