December 6th 2015, The Regent, Los Angeles CA: As I’ve mentioned before for those of you who have been paying attention, usually when I go to metal shows I find myself attending the same venue, or the same area of town more than once in the same week despite the multitude of venues that are capable of temporarily housing metal bands. This past week I’ve spent two nights at The Regent because they captured my attention with the best entertainment, and on Sunday December 6th 2015, I attended the Kamelot-DragonForce tour. This show was set up with just two main acts and no openers, so timely attendance was mandatory. Continue reading “Power Metal Meltdown – Kamelot & DragonForce Perform At The Regent”

December 2nd 2015, The Roxy, West Hollywood CA: To readers of this site, the name Dave Lombardo needs absolutely no introduction. The legendary metal drummer’s experimental side project Philm had been mildly active in the last two or three years, and had a short string of Southern California headline shows booked for December 2015. But the band went on an indefinite hiatus, and Lombardo formed a new hardcore punk project with members of The Locust and Retox instead, called Dead Cross, replacing Philm and saving these shows. Dead Cross headlined the Roxy in West Hollywood last Wednesday December 2nd, and out of pure curiosity towards this new entity, a good number of Lombardo fans were in attendance. November 29th 2015, The Mayan, Los Angeles CA: Raleigh, North Carolina progressive metal mainstays Between The Buried And Me have never shied away from challenging themselves in creative endeavors, as proven by the ‘Parallax’ releases of 2011 and 2012, and everything they’ve done prior. After ‘Parallax’, they took upon the task of a rock opera-style concept record, and the result was their seventh full-length studio album ‘Coma Ecliptic’, released in July 2015 via Metal Blade Records. After a successful first US headline run in support of the album, Between The Buried And Me embarked upon another North American tour in November, this time with support acts Enslaved, Intronaut and Native Construct constituting an irresistible lineup for prog fans. The four bands arrived in downtown Los Angeles for a gig at the Mayan Theatre last Sunday November 29th, and it promised to be this year’s marquee event for fans of the genre. November 29th 2015, The Whisky-A-Go-Go, West Hollywood CA: The Whisky-A-Go-Go has catered to many metal bands throughout the years and is still in constant competition with the Viper Room that exists practically across the street from it, and when you see a band at the Whisky that has encountered a positive experience, they tend to stay loyal to the venue and always return to show their dedication. Nashville Pussy, as well as many other southern rock/metal bands seem to have an undeniably good time at this venue. On the third show of their three-week November-December 2015 ‘Ten Years Of Pussy’ West Coast tour, Nashville Pussy were back at the Whisky last Sunday November 29th with opening acts In The Whale, Sounds Like Murder and Stereo Love, and naturally, I ventured out to the show.
