August 10th 2014, The Viper Room, West Hollywood CA: Sunday on the Sunset Strip: the day of the dead. Typically, all clubs, bars and restaurants in the area are sparsely populated on Sundays, which means there isn’t a high-profile rock/metal show to be found, but it in turn gives an opportunity to some of the promising local bands to show their wares at these clubs. Fledgling LA hard rock band Future Villains have had quite a tremendous year, completing a successful North American tour with Steel Panther in the spring and continuing to play local shows regularly ever since they returned home. They’ve made somewhat of a habit of performing at the Viper Room, and here they were on this Sunday night with fellow LA band Mad Temple and Baltimore MD/Washington DC touring act Charm City Devils. Nick Oliveri Plays Solo Acoustic Set At The Satellite

Review & photos by Andrew Bansal

August 9th 2014, The Satellite, Los Angeles CA: Known for his involvement in groups such as Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, Mondo Generator, The Dwarves and several others over the past nearly 25 years, Nick Oliveri needs no introduction to true stoner rock fans. But in a departure from what he does in most of the bands he’s ever played in, Oliveri donned an acoustic guitar to play a solo hometown show last night with support acts The Freeks, You Know Who and Waxy, a gig put together by Matthew Hutchison of Self Destructo Records and aptly held at the Satellite which is very much a haven for shows presenting this style of music. Plebeian Grandstand, Reproacher, Harassor & Others Perform At Five Star Bar

By Andrew Bansal

August 8th 2014, Five Star Bar, Los Angeles CA: Hailing from Tolouse, France, black power violence quartet Plebeian Grandstand set out on a US run last Monday August 4th with Cheyenne, Wyoming’s extreme metal/hardcore punk outfit Reproacher as their tour mates, and visited the Five Star Bar in downtown Los Angeles to play with local extreme acts Harassor, Conjuror and Battery Axe for a show presented by Thee Static Age. This was the fourth metal show at this venue this week alone out of which I missed only one, and  the Five Star Bar ‘regulars’ who came out to some of these shows were in attendance for this one as well. August 7th 2014, Five Star Bar, Los Angeles CA: Denver doom trio Primitive Man embarked a North American run with Danish extreme force Hexis, and made their way to LA towards the end of the tour to perform at the Five Star Bar, where they previously shared the stage with The Funeral Pyre last year. Presented by The Elegy Ensemble, this show had Doctorshopper, Corpspazm and Pessimist as local support, and for the LA doom horde this promised to be another enjoyable evening with some killer bands.
