2014 Mid-Year Recap: Best Albums

By Andrew Bansal

MetalAssault_2014midyear

2014 has come to its halfway point, and it’s that time of the year when we look back at its first six months and spotlight some of the best music to have come out during this period. As always, I’ve given a thorough listen to every single album released between January 1st and June 30th, and have excluded EPs, live albums, split albums and reissues from consideration. There’s already been a ton of great offerings across all sub-genres of hard rock and heavy metal this year, and as expected, it was tough to shorten the list and then rank the ones chosen. Without further ado, here’s my list of the 14 best albums of the year so far. Continue reading “2014 Mid-Year Recap: Best Albums”

The Art Daniels Blog – Part 5

By Art Daniels

artblog1June 2nd 2014: So the tour is over and here I sit in the basement of Dusty Bo’s Family home.  How did I get here? Let’s look at the last week or so and see what happened. Before you do that, (Check out parts 1, 2 , 3 and 4 of the blog if you haven’t yet).

Toronto: So to get to Toronto, we have to cross over into Canada at Peace Bridge near Buffalo, NY and after the last mess getting into Canada, we are ready for everything. How long does it take us? About 15 minutes. I guess Canada felt they got as much as they could squeeze out of us. That’s fine though, because we are looking forward to playing another show in the Great White North. Two things about this trip for me. This is the first time I have spent time in Toronto in nice weather. It’s pretty amazing when it’s not freezing. The second is that this is the second time I have spent an American Holiday here. I was also here last Thanksgiving. Now I’m here for Memorial Day. I might be a terrible American. The Art Daniels Blog – Part 4

By Art Daniels

artblog1May 26th 2014: So when we last left off, we were heading toward the Canada border. (Check out parts 1, 2 and 3 of the blog if you haven’t yet). Crossing the border is easy if you’re not in a van or truck full of musicians and equipment. There are more than a few ways to make it easier on yourselves but what it comes down to is that they want your money at the border. If you had a felony in your life, they have this scam, yes SCAM where they make you pay $200 to get in. I’m not going to say who but one of the dudes in the van did something so long ago it’s not even on his record anymore but they found it and made him pay. They also kept us there for three fucking hours while they decided that’s what he had to pay. It’s a scam. So that was pretty aggravating, but Montreal is pretty cool. The Art Daniels Blog – Part 3

By Art Daniels

artblog1May 19th 2014: So when we last talked, we had just visited Kenny’s mom. (Check out parts 1 and 2 of the blog if you haven’t yet). Louisiana is a beautiful and scary place. The food is really good. Kenny showed us where he grew up and the tree he used to pee on. Yes, it was a special place. Too bad we had a long drive ahead of us, it would have been nice to stick around. On we went to Orlando, Myrtle Beach, Silver Spring, Philadelphia and Sayreville. (Even though this blog is being posted today on May 23rd, it was written just after the New Jersey show on May 18th, and describes everything up to that point). The Art Daniels Blog – Part 2

By Art Daniels

artblog1May 13th 2014: Greetings from Louisiana! Before I start, I just wanted to thank all of you who hit me up to tell me how much they enjoyed the first blog, even if it was mostly people trying to get free tickets to shows. That plus the five people who started following me on Instagram, I feel like king shit right now.  I’m blushing. So where did I leave off? Oh yes, on our way to Denver, Colorado. So, we went out of our way to find a RV park in Golden, Colorado so that we could take a tour of the Coors Brewery. I can’t explain how much I was looking forward to see where one of my favorite beers is brewed. The sad truth is that the place didn’t have tours that day. I’m still not happy about that. We still made the most of our day by drinking Coors and watching Smokey And The Bandit. That’s living the good life right there. Continue reading “The Art Daniels Blog – Part 2”
