Back in the day, creating mixtapes for your own listening pleasure or that of your friends and loved ones used to be a popular activity, but with the disappearance of the cassette tape medium over the years, the mixtape has been reduced to mere nostalgic value. But in recent years, an increasing number of heavy metal bands have been pressing their new music on cassettes, more as an entertaining throwback and a collectors’ item than anything else, but Ventura, California metal trio Night Demon have taken the next step in their contribution towards the resurgence of cassettes, by compiling their very own mixtape, simply titled ‘Heavy Metal Mixtape’. Metal Goes To School: Night Demon & Blasko Impart Lessons In Music Business

Even in the modern-day music industry climate, there is no shortage of aspiring youngsters pursuing to enter music business, whether it be as a musician or in roles like music management, marketing, public relations and journalism. Musicians Institute in Hollywood is doing its part to fuel such ambitions with their programs, and in this endeavor, the school also invites guest panelists to hold clinics and share valuable advice in classrooms. Last Tuesday September 8th 2015 was one such occasion, as Night Demon vocalist/bassist Jarvis Leatherby was invited to deliver a lecture at the Music Business department of Musicians Institute, along with Ozzy Osbourne’s bassist and Mercenary Management president/co-founder Rob Blasko, and yours truly. Throwback Thursday Photo Gallery: Anthrax @ Le Spectrum, Montreal 1984

In this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday, we revisit Anthrax on the 1984 US tour in support of their debut full-length album ‘Fistful Of Metal’. They performed at Le Spectrum in Montreal, and photographer Wayne William Archibald was in attendance to capture some incredible shots. Comparing that era of the band to their current incarnation, the lineup is certainly different, and the hair has mostly disappeared, but the same power and passion still drives them as a live band in a manner second to none. Throwback Thursday Photo Gallery: Exciter @ Le Spectrum, Montreal, Early 80s

In this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday, we take a look at the early days of the one of the most influential speed metal band, Exciter. The Canadian veterans began in the late 70s and nearly four decades later, despite lineup changes, are still carrying on, making festival appearances. Sometimes in the early 80s, at Le Spectrum in Montreal, they played a show and photographer Wayne William Archibald was on site to capture some images. Enjoy them in the gallery below:
