\u201cWe\u2019re reflecting on mortality,\u201d adds bassist\/vocalist Troy Sanders. \u201cTo that end, the album ties into our entire discography. It\u2019s 17 years in the making, but it\u2019s also a direct reaction to the last two years. We tend to draw inspiration from very real things in our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Emperor Of Sand\u2019 was recorded at The Quarry Recording Studio in Kennesaw, just outside Mastodon\u2019s hometown of Atlanta, with producer Brendan O\u2019Brien (Pearl Jam, Neil Young, AC\/DC, Rage Against The Machine), who first worked with Mastodon on their seminal 2009 album \u2018Crack The Skye\u2019.<\/p>\n
