Don Jamieson, co-host of VH1 Classic's heavy metal talk show 'That Metal Show', is ready to release his debut stand-up comedy album 'Live And Hilarious', after an illustrious career in comedy that has ranged from working on HBO's 'Inside The NFL' to ABC's 'Good Morning America' and a whole lot in between. This particular performance was recorded at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como, NJ last year, and presents a full set of Jamieson's jokes that touch on a wide variety of subjects, not least of all the one we can most relate to, heavy metal. The CD starts off on a very musical note with a nice little guitar singalong by Guns 'N Roses guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal. He does well to set the tone for the CD, after which Don wastes no time in talking about the aforementioned metal talk show and goes on to put a humorous spin on the channel and a couple of his favorite bands. Besides metal, he presents daily life topics in a manner in which everyone can see and enjoy the funny side of these things. The best part about the collection of jokes here is that Don does not harp on any single topic or theme, as some comedians can be found guilty of doing. There's something for everyone, as can be heard from the reaction of the crowd at the venue that night. The CD closes out the same way it opened, with two songs "Rape Your Face" and "Die Pig Die". Metal fans who know Don solely from That Metal Show can be assured that they can find a similar style of humor in his stand-up comedy album as well. Although it's hard to pick favorite jokes because they are all funny in their own different ways, "Halftime Day" is certainly the best of the lot, along with "Kids & Medicine", "Family Vacation" and "Drinking & Smoking Pot". With most of these, Don has also uncannily succeeded in putting forth his thoughts on the ongoings of society. Food for thought, that's for sure. I have spoken to various bands in interviews and one of them came up with a very interesting answer to the question of what they do on tour to "switch off". They said they listen to comedy albums because it's a real stress reliever. I completely agree, as I've tried this album for myself in various states of mind. Whether I was just waking up and starting a day, or stuck in traffic on an LA metro bus, or stoned out of my fucking mind, this album did the job for me every single time, and I would suggest this to not only metalheads, but to everyone in general. A thoroughly enjoyable 40 minutes of comedy that successfully live up to the album's title, and then some. Tweet | ||||||||||||||
