VINTERSORG: Jordpuls (Album Review)
By Kate Wilcox
Release Date: April 5th, 2011 Review Date: April 9th, 2011 Label: Napalm My rating:
Opening with "Varldsalltets Fanfar", Andreas returns to his black metal roots but also sweeps in with cleaner and more melodic vocals for the chorus, the two balance each other and would satisfy both black metal and progressive metal fans alike. "Klippor Och Skar" continues with the folk metal vibe and again combining Andreas' melodic and harsh vocals, making sure one doesn't dominate the other. Mattias is not to be left out here with his talents as he switches from progressive riffs to straight tremolo picking that's combined with keyboards to add even more power before it fades out. The dual vocals and harmonies in "Mork Nebulosa" are compelling and hypnotic as Mattias' shredding hits you with an unstoppable force. "Palissader" is one of the most remarkable tracks on the album that combines melody, atmosphere, and brutality together in a way that is classic Vintersorg. The album closes with the more mellow "Eld Och Lagor", a tune that shows the softer vocals of Andreas and Mattias delivers a brilliant solo. "Jordpuls" is not an album you can listen to just once before you make your judgment but I think Vintersorg has managed to create an album that metalheads across the board should be able to appreciate. This is definitely in my list of must haves! Tweet | ||||||||||||||
