In-person interview with Pawel "Paul" Jaroszewicz of Vader
By Aniruddh "Andrew" Bansal
April 20th 2010, House of Blues, Hollywood CA

Andrew: Last November you were here headlining in the States and this time you are supporting. How is it different?
Paul: The obvious difference is the time that we play. This time we have a shorter set, but still it's a chance for wider exposure because other people come in for Overkill. Hopefully it's a chance to grab some new fans and just remind people of ourselves. It's good to be in the States again.

Andrew: During your last headline tour, I was at the show at the Key Club in Hollywood. You guys didn't even play for an hour, even though you were headlining. What was the reason for that short set?
Paul: You know, I don't really remember right now but I think there was this curfew at that time so we had to pretty much finish early. It was the last show at the Key Club and it got shut down after that show so probably that was the reason.

Andrew: What do you think of the response to your new album Necropolis, specially here in the States?
Paul: As far as I see right now, the response is really good. People are really into the stuff. I don't know about the details of the sales of the album here and in Europe, but as far as I know, it's good and we're happy!

Andrew: Are you playing any new songs in this tour's set list?
Paul: Yeah we have four songs off of Necropolis which is pretty much half of the set. Next time we will try to play more of the new stuff as this time we have a shorter set. Also, some of the older songs always have to be in the set, like Sothis and those kinds of songs.

Andrew: On this new album you did a couple of cover songs. Why did you particularly choose Venom and Metallica songs for those?
Paul: Actually that was pretty spontaneous because when we were sitting in the studio, we were listening to Metallica's Ride The Lightning album and all of a sudden, we were like 'Hey, why not play this one' because we were looking for some covers, to play something as extra stuff besides the regular material. Venom was pretty easy and obvious because that song is pretty much a classic.

Andrew: This was your first album with the band. How was it working with the other guys in the band?
Paul: It's been really good. It was definitely a new experience because Petr has some very specific recording system, routine, whatever you call it. So that was a challenge. But it went well and it was pretty good I think. I definitely learnt a lot from that.

Andrew: The Vader fans say that you have the hard task of filling the shoes of Doc and Daray, the previous drummers. Do you think you've been able to live up to it till now?
Paul: It's hard for me to judge but I'm trying to do my best. It's up to people to judge. If they like it, I'm happy. If not, you know it means I still need to work on the stuff.

Andrew: What do you think of the touring guitarist Marco on this tour and how did the band hook up with him?
Paul: He's a really good guy and a good guitarist. As far as I know, Petr got in contact with him. I didn't even know before we started the tour. I think there was this casting kind of thing and Petr sent an open letter to guitarists willing to fill in for this tour an he chose him.

Andrew: What plans do you have coming up in terms of touring?
Paul: After this tour we have a break for a week and after that we have a festival tour in Europe with Deicide and Marduk. We have another tour in Russia and the Eastern countries like Ukraine and Belarus after that. Then we have some time off. Closer to the end of the year we're going to have tours in South America. Also in the States we will be touring with Immolation. That's going to be a co-headlining tour. That's going to be the third tour of the States within a year so it's going to be good!
